Returns the list of apps resulting from a live keyword search on the mobile app stores. Historical results are also available.
The Keyword Search endpoint returns the stores' search results (in the form of list of apps) for a given keyword. To perform live searches on the store you can use Keyword Live Search - Current. You can also access historical results using Keyword Live Search - History.
If you're interested in live searches with ads, use Keyword Live Search With Ads.
Keyword Live Search - Current
This endpoint enables you to run a live keyword search exactly as it would be on your phone on the App Store or Google Play. It returns the organic results.

You can refer to the following table for the max number of results for both stores:
| Current | iOS | Android |
|---|---|---|
| App results | Max 250 | Max 250 |
Keyword Live Search With Ads - Current
This endpoint enables to fetch the app results for a live keyword search and includes the potential ads in the search. First ad and second ad placements are available.
Currently, only iOS ads are supported.
Keyword Live Search - History
You can also get historical results of keywords searches. Bear in mind that this will only return results if the keyword is tracked by AppTweak. To make sure it is, we recommend following the keyword in your AppTweak ASO account.
You can refer to the following table for the max number of results for both stores:
| History | iOS | Android |
|---|---|---|
| App results | Max 500 | Max 250 |
I don't have 500 results for a keyword search, is it normal?Yes, that can happen because the store has only fewer results than that.
Can I use "Keyword Live Search - History" with today's date?Yes, you can also use it with today's date. If the keyword is not tracked by AppTweak or if the AppTweak hasn't fetched the results yet for today, we will perform a live search and maximum 250 app results will be returned.
FAQs
How do I fetch the current app store search results for a keyword via API?
You can pull the live, organic search results for any app store keyword with AppTweak's Keyword Live Search - Current endpoint (GET /keywords/search-results/current). Pass a single keyword, plus country, language, and device (iphone, ipad, or android). The response returns an ordered array of app IDs (numeric IDs for iOS, package names for Android) exactly as they rank in that search, up to 250 results per store, with the date the search ran.
Can I see which apps are running ads for a specific app store keyword?
Yes — AppTweak's Keyword Live Search With Ads endpoint (GET /keywords/search-results/ads/current) returns the same ordered app results as a live search, but flags each entry with an is_ad boolean, so you can tell paid placements from organic ones at a glance. First and second ad slots are supported. This endpoint currently covers iOS only — pass keyword, country, language, and device (iphone or ipad).
How do I retrieve historical app store search rankings for a keyword?
You can pull past search-result snapshots for a keyword with AppTweak's Keyword Live Search - History endpoint (GET /keywords/search-results/history.json), using start_date and end_date (format YYYY-MM-DD, defaulting to the last 30 days). It returns one ranked array of app IDs per day in the range that AppTweak actually searched, so you can see how the search results for that keyword shifted over time rather than only the current snapshot.
Why does a historical keyword search return fewer results than expected?
A history call only returns a result for a given day if the keyword was tracked by AppTweak on that date, and only up to as many apps as the store actually showed. If a keyword isn't followed in your AppTweak ASO account, some days in the range may be missing from the response. Separately, a store search page can itself return fewer than the documented maximum (500 for iOS, 250 for Android in History) if fewer apps matched the keyword that day — that's expected store behavior, not an API limit.
Can I get today's app store search results for a keyword that isn't tracked yet?
Yes — querying the History endpoint with today's date still returns results even for an untracked keyword. In that case, AppTweak runs a live search on the fly instead of pulling a stored daily snapshot, and returns up to 250 app results. To get a full historical series for a keyword going forward, follow it in your AppTweak ASO account so AppTweak captures a search snapshot for it every day.
